Empower’s 2009 Mission
Trip to Kenya, Uganda,
Burundi, Malawi, and
South Africa
Empower
International Ministries is a non-denominational Christian
ministry working in developing
countries to encourage Biblical values of unity and self-giving love in
marriage, family, and community. Through short-term mission trips,
our American volunteers preach, present seminars, and train ministers,
leaders and teachers in our host countries to conduct the seminar
themselves. At home, we develop Bible study guides and other
materials that are provided to our international affiliates.
We plan to take a large team to Africa in June 2009 to meet the many
requests for our seminar in East and South Africa.
Empower’s program, New Man, New Woman, New Life
is an easy to lead two-, three-, or four-day seminar covering the
biblical passages on marriage. Most of the seminar involves
participants working in small groups. You need not now be an
expert in the subject or an experienced preacher to conduct these
seminars. Training will be provided by Empower. Please note:
Participants will be expected to raise funds for their own travel,
lodging and food.

Important Dates
Empower’s 2009
Mission Trip to Africa
Depart U.S. on June 10 or 11 (depending on where
you are coming from and which airline you take) to meet in Nairobi,
Kenya on June 12.
We will spend June 12 to June 15 at a wildlife
park in Nairobi to recover from jetlag and do some teambuilding (and
safari, of course.)
On June 15 we return to the airport, split into
several teams and proceed to our mission sites in Uganda, Kenya,
Burundi, Malawi or South Africa. Each team will be accompanied by
one or more of our African partners. Missionaries will choose
their length of stay in Africa but it is anticipated that most will stay
two weeks, flying out on June 25 or 26.

Speaker: Empower president, Carrie Miles
“Love in an Age of Wealth:
Challenges to Love and Family in Africa and the United States”
Today's society is saturated with competing answers to modern dilemmas
of love, sex, marriage, and family. Empower International president and
Christian author Carrie Miles takes a new approach to this confusion.
She argues that in the absence of Christian values, family-related
behavior is more like to be driven by material self-interest than by
concern for other family members. Drawing on history to generate
insights into the causes of contemporary problems in the United States
and Africa, she goes on to offer a fresh interpretation of biblical
texts on marriage and family relationships. This approach reveals
that Biblical teachings are not about authority or submission in the
household (as commonly thought) but about developing relationships that
reflect and honor Christ’s agape
love for us all – a perspective as meaningful in 2008 as it was in Jesus’
day.
